Talent is the ability to commit the time required to reach your goal
That is a paraphrase of something Scott said. He spent time detailing the preparation that goes into a final product, from rough sketch to intermediate versions, to the final product. This helped demystify the perception of final product as the result of latent ability and inspiration. Sorry Jackson Pollack. From experience in the music world I would agree that anyone can become a good, or competent artist, through study and work, but with any artistic work there is something that sets the best work apart from the craftsman's output. Scott said that for him it was finding something in the work that inspired or excited him. Only after finding that quality in a project, did the final outcome "speak" to the viewer. Below are a few snapshots from the meeting; Scott talking over a slide, Scott at the easel, to demonstrate what he had been discussing, he spent a few minutes making a preliminary sketch of a peacock.
